Dr. Rachel Staples DMD

Read Bio

Rachel was born and raised in Victoria and was thrilled to return to her hometown in 1995 – after completing her dental degree at the University of British Columbia – to start her practice and raise her family.

A life-long learner, Rachel embarked on a journey of further training and hands-on learning in 2007. She attended and completed all seven core levels of neuromuscular dentistry at the prestigious LVI Global in Las Vegas, Nevada where she is currently a fellow. Rachel believes in integrating comprehensive diagnosis and contemporary techniques with the latest technologies. With this philosophy, her goal is to improve the lives of her patients and to bring beautiful smiles to all who visit her office.

While raising three young boys with her husband Brock, Rachel built her business to four practices over 15 years. As many of us do, she has realized that quality is far better than quantity so she has worked over the past year to streamline and simplify her life both personally and professionally. Urban Smiles Victoria is the culmination of that effort: quality dentistry in a caring environment, delivered by a team whose mission it is to make your dental visit a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Over the years, Rachel has performed countless hours of volunteer work through Dentistry for the Heart and, along with her team, has delivered hundreds of thousands of dollars in dental care to those in need in her own community. She has also enjoyed volunteering with the Rotary Club, delivering dental services and supplies to the indigenous people of Guatemala. In the next few years, she hopes to recruit her sons and husband to join her on a dental mission to South East Asia.

I was born in El Salvador and came to Canada in 1993 when I was 20 years old.

I grew up watching my sister and her husband practising dentistry and was fortunate to be able to assist them after school. My interest in dentistry as a career was born from that experience.

When I first arrived in Canada, I faced a lot of challenges. I knew I needed to sink my teeth (pun intended) into finding a job. I worked for many years in the manufacturing industry while learning English as a second language.  Although I was getting promoted in the automotive parts industry and granted opportunities to go to College to become a Quality Assurance Inspector, I decided that it didn’t fulfill my need to work and help people.  That desire led me to enroll in College and train to become a Certified Dental Assistant. I received my diploma from CDI College in 2007 and have been practicing ever since. I keep motivated by taking continuing education courses to be up-to-date with the most current and digital technologies.

I moved to Canmore, Alberta in 2014 and was able to participate in many charitable events such as Dentistry from the Heart and volunteering at CUPS, a non-for profit organization in Calgary where I helped with the community dental needs.

A road trip to Victoria in 2016 had me fall in love with island life. I am happy to have found Urban Smiles Victoria where I hope to grow and learn and be a valued member of an amazing team.

In my spare time you will find me hiking, road cycling or swimming at Thetis Lake, a place which has become my favourite spot on hot days.

I look forward to helping my new community with their dental needs, here at Urban Smiles Victoria and Urban Smiles Colwood.
